The America’s Cup World Series visited Chicago last weekend, the first time the historic series has ever raced on freshwater. To mark the event, a team of Hobie® sailors brought a fleet of Wave catamarans to the windy city. Before and between races, the Waves sailed out onto Lake Michigan under the command of youth skippers as part of the AC Endeavour community outreach program.

Eight Hobie Waves will remain in Chicago to benefit youth sailing, in the hands of the Chicago Park District, the Chicago Parks Foundation, and the Chicago Match Race Center.

“We’ve had a tremendous amount of support from the community for the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series this summer and we are excited to bring the AC Endeavour Program to Chicago to leave a true legacy behind,” said Tod Reynolds, Event Director of Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series Chicago race. “Given the success of our fundraising thus far, the support of our Foundation Partners – CME Group, Leopardo Construction, and DRW – and the enthusiasm of the Chicago boating and philanthropic community, we anticipate this program will be able to engage Chicago students long after the race finishes in June.”
