The 2010 Hobie SUP Road show came to Kings Beach, Lake Tahoe for the 4th annual Tahoe – Nalu Race last weekend. The event drew competitors and their families from all over the US for two days of SUP racing and fun. The Hobie team came ready to race and offered up some impressive results across two days of intense racing in some of the most challenging conditions. Day one saw Team Hobie show its depth in the Elite race by placing 5 in the top 10 with Chuck Patterson placing 3rd, Byron Kurt 5th, Colin McPhillips 6th, Mitch Kahn, 7th, and Rob Pelkey 8th.
Day two’s 10 mile distance race proved to be as much as a challenge as the previous days Elite race with racers having to contend with 5 miles of stiff head winds prior to a much welcomed 5 miles of downwind running into the finish line. Chuck Patterson led the Hobie team overall with a 2nd place unlimited finish. In the much contended 14’ class, Byron Kurt led the team finishing 2nd with Mitch Kahn 3rd, Rob Pelkey 5th and Colin McPhillips 8th.
The 3 mile technical buoy race saw Emmy Merrill take the women’s division as well as placing a very respectable 4th place overall.
The team relay rounded out the 2 days with Team Hobie really proving its depth. Colin McPhillips, Mitch Kahn, Emmy Merrill, and Byron Kurt ran a flaw less race finishing over a minute ahead of the 2nd place team.
