Byron Blog- Day 1, 11 City SUP Tour

What a day, hardest paddle that I have ever done however finishing 1st in the day 1 stage made it that much better.  Day 1 was a 45km or 28 mile stage with winds blowing 25-30mph the entire day and the wind was straight in our face.  The stage was made even more difficult sine the race commitee did not put a turn sign at mile 4 which had the top 5 paddlers going 3 miles more.  We had to have a restart and I was able to work with my Hobie team mate from Spain for half of the distance.  The talk of the stage was the Lake crossing that was a side head wind beating at our right side for 3 miles with 25-30mph winds.  As most of you that signed on to the website saw I finished 9 minutes ahead of second place heading into Day 2.  We have another tough day for wind tomorrow with the forecast calling for 25mph winds and half the stage will be another headwind.  Thursday and Friday the wether does not get any better with the forecast call for 30-40mph winds and 1 inch of rain.  the good part is that the wind will be at our back, thank god!  Very pleased with my performance today being so tough and getting me a little lead over the competition.  `my equipment could have not worked better with the new board from Hobie, great fins from future fins that kept all the crap that was in the water and my new Lowarnce GPS to help me strategize and manage the day.  DaKine did us great with the water hydration packs during the day.  All my co-workers from Callaway, thanks for your support as well.  Thanks for all the well wishes!  Speak to you all tomorrow and hopefully with another victory.  Good night from Holland!
