| The WindanSea Surf Club's 3rd Annual Butch Van Artsdalen Paddle Competition August 22, 2009 - Was raced in tough conditions with an unusal south wind of 12 to 18 knots. On the short course Cody Alter on the Hobie 14 pushed into the heavy south wind for 2.5 miles rounding the top mark side by side with hi s father Jeff. Cody went on to fly downswind taking the finish line honors on the 5 mile course. On the long course it was a battle with Mark Field and Hayden Lane. Mark and Hayden pushed into the wind for 4.5 miles with Mark pushing his Stock class SUP hard rounding the mark first. Hayden had trouble pushing the big Hobie 18 into the wind but once he turned the corner he flew down wind finishing first in the 9 mile open course. A special credit goes to Mark for paddling his stock class SUP in trhe long course and giving Hayden a run for his money. |
