Here is the scenario:

Your on your AI or TI trolling along (under sail) and you hear that wonderful sound of line spinning off or the clicker chattering. Given the sail is up and your humming along, what is some recommended actions to take for bringing in this fish? Note - I have trolled and caught fish on the AI before but was curious to hear from the more experienced AI or TI fishing trollers.

Thanks!

Adjust the drag then reef the sail.

grab harpoon. turn around. stare big fish in the eye and yell: “...to the last I grapple with thee; from hell's heart I stab at thee; for hate's sake I spit my last breath at thee.”

Furl sail, grab rod, check direction fish is running and start working the boat into a position that you want. It could be perpendicular but it might not be, depending on where you are and where other boats (power boats) are in relation to you and the direction the fish is running. I mainly fish for salmon and if a large one climbs on and starts screaming out towards a line of trolling power boats, then I will be following as fast as I can to try and keep close to my fish. Somewhere in this process I try and wind up my manual downrigger to get the ball out of the way--when this happens depends on how the fish is acting Sometimes a few blasts on my safety whistle to get the power boaters attention is necessary. Once the fish is coming to the boat, I collapse my port side ama and hook the bungee over it to keep it tight to the hull, thus creating a "clean" side to net the fish.

If you feel there is no time to furl: direct your TI in the wind until the sail kills and drill the fish. I am out on the Baltic an do it this way for cod.
