To All,

I went sailing other day in 10-15 kt winds, kept getting my main sheet lines
snagging EMPTY Hobie rod holder EXTENSION PIPES in aft well.

Looking at You Tube .... How do you tack or jibe with rods stowed in rod holders?

Seems a pain....or broken rods!??

THANKS. 8)

My starboard rod holder is mounted on a haka so it is out of the way. My port side rod holder is on a railblaza mount out on the aka so it is out of the way as well.

I only ever use the standard rod holder tubes on my TI when towing it on the trailer, and even then, only on short trips. Even when I use the "bull horns" behind the front seat, which puts rods out at 45 degrees, it is sometimes possible to snare the rods. I agree that the best method is to add rod holders out on the akas.

When running two lines, try to run one deep, and the other on or just below the surface(shallow). Then turns are less of a problem until you stop or slow too much to keep them where they should be.

X 2 railblaza mounts out on the akas.

I started off with a roll bar (pvc), which kept the sail line in check, but switched it out once I installed aka railblaza units.

With a floater on the long line and a sinker or deep diver on the close line. Great for those times requiring a sudden change of course and speed or when you just need 3 hands (fish on/traffic jams/lines fouled/gusts/rudder pins break/MOBs)

Only for transport: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZQSxVt63os

When actually rods out trolling, I wouldn't be sailing. Pedaling only.
