I use YakAttack Backing Plates.

It’s very easy to install with the YakAttack Rigging Bullet.

I now understand! The tracks are not parallel to each other due shape of kayak. I am an engineer but a little slow sometimes! Thank you! I also am a big believer in in backing plates!

What kind of bolts are those? Never seen those before. Very handy.

They are rigging bullets by YakAttack. A little pricey and sometimes you have to fool with them a little to get them to line up, but very handy!

If anybody is following this thread, you can actually use the sidekicks on Gear Trac on a Revo without an adapter plate. The key is to mount the tracks parallel with each other. In other words they do not follow the curve of the yak.

Riverman1 I understand the importance of the gear track being parallel. But I don't understand how that alleviates the need for backing plates. If you get stuck in big swells and take one sideways (or any other scenario that creates a lot of upperward force on the sidekick) without a backing plate that gear track could easily be ripped out especially if screws were used. I've seen in happen several times with rod holders being used on gear tracks. Seen it twice on a Hobie Compass with the gear tracks that on each side of the cockpit area.

You definitely need the backing plate! What you do not need is the adapter plate that attaches the sidekick bracket to the track. Johnnybravo's ingenious plate idea is needed for yaks with built in tracks that conform to shape of kayak---not parallel. If you are mounting tracks and have enough clearance to place them parallel with each other, you can just swap out the sidekick bolts for footed track bolts and lock nuts. I had to slightly drill out the sidekick bracket since it was for 10-32 screws and the track bolts are 1/4-20.
