I am about to be a first time Kayak owner. I am deciding between the Oasis and the Outfitter. I plan on using the Kayak for sailing, fishing, exploring, leisure, etc. The Oasis is nearly 1'10" longer. This leads me to believe I can pack a bit more gear in the Oasis with the extra length. I plan on going on camping trips and would need to pack a tent, etc. Aside from the rod holders on the Outfitter, what advantages does it have over the Oasis? |

Hi Jo and welcome to the forum. If you go into the search feature near the top of the page and type in both names you will find several informative dialogs on the two. They'll give you a pretty good list of pros and cons of each. They're both constrained as to how much gear you can pack, but with its longer range, larger carrying capacity and foredeck the Oasis sounds like a good choice for your needs. Stringy has done some over night excursions with his Oasis -- be sure and check out his excellent posts. Here's a good start: http://www.hobiecat.com/community/viewt ... oasis+trip ![]() |

G'Day Jorhyne and welcome! The link Roadrunner has posted (BTW thanks RR!) details an overnight trip we did earlier in the year. We have been very happy with our Tandem (Oasis) and are planning more trips this season. We feel we could carry enough gear easily for up to a weeks trip away. The extra storage the Oasis has over the Outfitter makes it a better choice in my opinion. It is also easier to paddle (narrower) and cruises slightly faster. Much has been posted about these tandems and as RR has suggested a search of the forums is excellent advice. There's a wealth of info available so you can make an informed choice. ![]() |

We looked at both, and were a nanosecond away from buying the Oasis for all the reasons mentioned above. Then reality set in. I love to fish. My lovely wife does not. I like to explore. Similar disconnect. While my backside is manly and awe-inspiring, it does get monotonous as the primary view after a few hours. We enjoy talking more when we can see each other's faces. We ended up with a pair of Revos instead. My wife had cardiac fibrillations at the cost, but it was definitely the right choice. We can go side by side if we want. I can wander off and go fishing, and I can go out solo easily. |
