Post subject:  07 Outback

After having tried a couple of 08 outbacks, I found a great deal on a new 07 outback and purchased it. It was unused with full warranty. I was surprised how it felt in the water, vs the 08's I had tried. It seems to sit higher in the water and is much more tippy. Is this my imagination or is there a difference in the hulls of the 07's to the 08's? If there is a differnce, is there anything I can do? Sand bag in the keel, etc.

My only suggestion is that if you think you are sitting in an Outback and you think it feels tippy, walk back to the back and look at the name and be sure you are indeed in an Outback. Those things are rock solid.

Have you owned a SOT before? If not, paddle this a week and then let us know if it still feels tippy. No sand bags or ballast needed. Give it a chance, you'll love it.

Here's an excellent review of the '07 Outback by Apalach. http://www.hobiecat.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=4969

He addresses your tippiness issue as something that occurred in the '06 and earlier models. Take a look at his pictures and make sure you have an '07 and not an '06. The '07 hull is just like the '08s that you demonstrated.

You can also look at the serial # (hand-inscribed at the rear of the hull bottom. The last two digits will verify the year model. 8)

Post subject:  livewell instead of sand bag

Instead of a sand bag, try a live well! Use the water to help weigh it down if needed.
