Post subject:	Hobie's New Scupper Cart
Hobie has made some excellent improvements with it's latest "Plug In" carts. Both the Trax and Standard get a new frame and a couple of other features. Wheels appear to be unchanged. I got the new version with Standard wheels, which has been a very reliable and rugged cart for me in the past. Six inches wider, the new cart improves stability on uneven surfaces. With 2 1/2 inches extra height, it has plenty of reach to extend completely through any hull, including the new Pro Angler. Here's what the old and new look like together: Here's the new cart sitting under a Revolution: It has a new feature that is really clever. One of the top caps pulls out and pins in the side to lock the cart on the boat. This allows you to lift the boat down to the ground with the cart pre-installed! It is attached with a bungee so it stows neatly in the hole on top of the cart when not in use. Here's what it looks like: boat sitting on cart boat suspended, cart locked on Finally, you can see that the top caps are now domed (left, below) rather than flat. This should improve the insertion of the cart when reaching under the boat in the water. My old cart has always done an excellent job, but was a little unstable sideways on the old local ramp, especially near some of the uneven seams. I had to be careful with a loaded Oasis and the full AI rig. This new cart will be a big improvement! Price? Hobie has not changed the retail price for these new carts, so they're a much better value, IMO. I think they list for about $90 (Standard) and $140 (Trax). Same part #. If you're in the market for a new version, be sure and specify the wide one in the event your dealer still has both versions. If you prefer the old version, you'll have to find a dealer that still has them in stock.

Thanks Roadrunner. The first I knew of a new cart was when it was mentioned yesterday in a new post. Tonight I was going to ask the poster MMM for a pic. Now I don't have to! BTW-Where are your tennis balls?

Odd that Hobie's new cart is almost exactly the same height as my trusty custom version. It only goes to show that great minds think alike! BTW, the locking pin fits very snugly in it's locking position. If you insert it a few times and roll and wiggle it around a bit, this should relax the fit so it operates smoothly.

Roadrunner - Great Post! I have already modified my Hobie trax cart with small knobby tractor tires. I put them on backwards so that the wheels are offset giving it a wider stance. It appears to be a good improvement - especially the domed cap. What is the part number for a set of replacement domed caps? Hobie needs to add this to the parts catalog Several of the standard 'flat caps' have long since fallen off the tops & bottoms of my 2 carts. I did make some caps but would love the domed ones.

If not available the domed caps alone will certainly be a BIG help in inserting the cart while kayak is in the water. Adding these to my Spring parts list along with another Hobie inflating cushion, some sprockets & cables, and a few other necessary goodies.

The caps with pin is not available as an upgrade. The shaft of the cart has to be longer.

I was planning to pick-up one of these new carts, along with my first Oasis, next weekend. The dealer gave me a discount on the '08 Oasis, and had to order the cart. I feel sure that this is an honest mistate, but the dealer plans to charge me around $130 for the new design cart, advising that Hobie increased their pricing. So the list price actually remains at $90?

I verified this pricing before posting it, so am quite confident that it is correct. I didn't pay any more for mine. If your dealer is uncertain about this, he can simply pick up the phone and confirm it with the Hobie Parts Dept. If I'm wrong, it will be the first time ever! If your dealer continues to insist that the price has gone up, I'd recommend you call another dealer and verify this.

Just be clear on the type of cart the dealer is quoting. There are two. Hobie Standard and Hobie Trax. The Trax is $140

Hello Matt, Thanks for your input. The dealer and I are definitely discussing the standard cart. I will clear it up with him tomorrow. I look forward to my initiation to Hobie products. If my family and I find that we like the 08 Oasis well enough, we may also add the updated 09 to our fleet. Will

Update - My dealer checked further and confirmed that there was no price increase for the new standard cart. He apologized and thanked me for bringing the error to his attention.

I was thinking of getting one of these carts for my 08 Hobie Outfitter- does anybody know for sure whether it will fit? I can't find the outfitter specifically listed as a model that the cart fits on the dealer sites I have visited (most other models are listed) and I can't tell from the picture whether the post width is adjustable- and obviously I also don't know whether the width of the suppers on the outfitter are any wider than any other Hobie kayak. Thanks for any info.
