Post subject:  Two People In A Pro Angler?
Kinda new to this kayak stuff so be gentle.

Looking for one kayak to use 90% fishing and 10% riding around with the wife (no fishing gear). While using for fishing, I want to be able to stand and cast or pole. I'm sold on the Pro Angler for fishing but there is one little problem - only one seat. Is it possible to set up some kind of temp seat in that sucker, that can be removed for my fishing trips? Some kind of jump seat to face either bow or stern? For thoses ocasions I's be willing to remove the peddles if more space is needed for a temp seat. How about on top of the forward hatch? Help? This is the only thing preventing me from getting this baby.

I am facing the same decision as you with the wife. I was looking at tandems for that purpose, but because of my 36" inseam, Roadrunner recommended I stay away from them (except for the inflatable) At the same time, I really wanted
to get the Pro Angler, cause so far it seems perfect for where I fish (large local lake, and large bays at Jersey Shore -
with occasional surf launch. (Thanks to RoadRunners excellant and thorough review I was hooked) So I sat down and thought about how much she will really end up doing - in my case the 10% figure you used is optomistic. I am lucky because I have a number of non peddle kayaks - I am moving to the Hobie because of shoulder issues, plus they are so great for fishing, etc. So since she won't go out very often, and when she does it is usually for a few hours, not a whole day, and the pace is slow - I should be able to paddle enough to keep up without getting two Hobies to start.
In your case, , if two on the PA won't work, then think about picking up a used Ocean Kayak or Tarpon to paddle along with her - should be able to find an OK pretty cheap. In my case, I am hoping that she will like the Hobie so much we will have to figure out a way to afford another one in a couple of years! Then RoadRunner or someone will have to figure out the best way to carry two of these things at once!

Yaker, welcome to the forum.

IMO, half the fun in having a boat is customizing it to your needs. In your case, you know the boat can easily support your combined weights. You've got 3 load bearing areas -- drive deck, cargo well and gunwales. The foredeck and afterdeck are not designed to support that much weight.

I've stood in the cargo well and also sat there as a passenger. With a piece pf plywood to distribute the load, what about a stadium seat, stool or small director's chair in that area?

If you can operate without the Mirage Drive (say with an electric motor?) why not attach a bench seat supported at the gunwales along the forward edge of the Drive deck? You could wing nut it right through the mounting boards for a quick disconnect.

If you wanted to get fancy, you could build a custom seat mount, allowing the main seat to slide back for better balance and accommodation for two (one forward).

Lots of possibilities! 8)
