Well i pulled my 09 Adventure up on the beach with the rudder still down and cracck,,did the rudder pin,,i remember reading that Hobie puts a spare pin under the back hatch in the groove,,i checked and theres nothing there. I asked around and nobody else had one there either. Just wondering is it standard in the U.S to supply spares ones and Australian dealers are very slack or is the onus on the new buyer to buy them ? I could have a lenghly wait to get one from the East Coast (i am in the West)my nearest dealer has about $50,000 worth of kayaks on display but have to order some pins in (in fact they did last week, (3) why not 50 ? I am a bit peed off being out of action because of a little plastic pin ![]() |

As you know, the pin is designed to fail to save the assembly. Better pick up two then -- one for a spare. In the meantime, maybe the dealer will loan you one from a display kayak or spare rudder assembly (if any). Or you can temporarily use a door hinge pin or something similar while you wait, but at the risk of breaking your rudder assembly if the rudder needs to come up unexpectedly. Be careful. Your dealer must be an eternal optimist! The Adventure Islands can go through these pins fairly often at their higher speeds and rudder loads. Your experience is a good reminder for everyone to check and make sure they have a spare pin, especially if they don't have a well stocked dealer nearby! ![]() BTW, I'm not sure if all boats are supplied with a factory spare -- maybe just the Adventure Islands? |

My 08 outback didn't come with a spare pin. The rear hatch does in fact have the storage area for the pin, but that area is empty. My plan is to use twig or tiny stik if the current pin ever breaks (Until I can remember to get/order spares) |
