Post subject: | new 05 mirage tandem rudder slightly bent to right |
I just bought a new never usd 05 mirage tandem oasis and haven't used it yet. I would guess sitting around a few years the rudder shaft probably got slightly bent. Is there a way I can straighten it out and should I remove the rudder or rudder shaft assembly to bend it back. Sitting in the kayak the bend it to the right and the rudder is rubbing up against the kayak slightly. Even though it is new I would like to fix it if possible. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. dave |

Dave, welcome to the forum and congratulations on your new Oasis! On the '05, you should have the rudder, stainless rudder pin (attaches rudder to rudder mount), rudder mount (stainless shaft with a 'T' top) and a horizontal plastic rudder pin (with keeper rings on either side) that secures the mount to the boat. Are any of these components bent or are the mounting holes sitting crooked? Here's a link to Hobie product support. Further down the page you will find "Original Hobie Mirage Rudder Installation Video" which breaks out the parts and assembly for clarification. ![]() |

I just bought this brand new never used and with it being an 05 probably sitting around till 09 something probably bumped up against the rudder. I think the stainless steel shaft is bent. It's bent slightly which is why I'm not that concerned about it. I think finding the best way to bend it back is all it needs. It's not a defect in the hull molding. I'll look at the rudder installation video. Thanks for your help. dave |
