Post subject: | Outback pedal position problem |
Hello; I'm a new owner of an Outback, and I couldn't be happier. I'm about 6'3", and with the seat in the aft position I am really the most comfortable with the pedals in position 7. 6 is just a bit short for me. The problem I am having is when they are in position 7 when I fully extend one leg the pedal whacks against the bulkhead in front of the pedals. Besides the noise I am sure this isn't good for the boat long-term. Any suggestions on what I could do different or any workarounds? Thanks |

You can also use a reduced pedal stroke. If you fully extend, regardless of the pedal position, the fins slap the bottom of the boat as well. For a quiet and effecient ride... reduce the stroke by a half inch or so. |

So leave it in position 7 and just use a shorter stroke? I'll try it out this weekend. |

Yea, it is clearly built to peddle with that adjustment unlike the revo or adventure which don't require you to peddle short....................... But don't tell anyone, they promise to fix that problem next year, but it's not really a problem......so, keep it quiet.................. |

Clay. Bitterness is unnecessary. We have been quite straight forward with this issue. No secret. Yes, we have been trying to get the molds uniform as related to pedal contact with the cockpit. Changes to drives, Changes to the lock-in system (Click-n-go) hulls and distortion over time from production has caused the issue over the years. This pedal contact "issue" does not effect but the tallest of users and only at the full extent of the pedal stroke. As I have explained before... All hulls, even a hull without a pedal contact issue in the last inch of the stroke, will cause thump and slap noise if stroked to the limit. This is normal and not a defect. The way to avoid this is the same as we have described here... reduce the stroke slightly. This is the CORRECT technique for using a MirageDrive powered kayak. |

I've got no issue with manufacturing variances and the fact that I am at the extreme end of leg length the system was designed for. My dealer let me try out my Hobie before I bought it. I'll give it a shot on Sunday and report back. I appreciate the feedback. Unrelated, on my last trip I noticed some water in the hull. Considering it was pretty much glass water I was surprised. Considering it was nasty hot and humid out and the water was cold (incoming Pacific tide) my first guess was condensation. But since I'm a bit of a fattie I also know that the Mirage Drive well is below the waterline when I am in the kayak is some leakage from the click mounts expected? It wasn't much, but I just wanted a gut check if I should be looking for issues in the scuppers. |

No leaks below the waterline are expected, so if this is the issue... we can take care of it. Condensation, but that would not explain more than a very small amount. |

It was wet, but not puddled. I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks. |
