Post subject:  Winter storage

Our new Hobies are currently stored on their sides on a shaded portion of our deck. I've been pondering Winter storage.

Like a lot of people, our garage is packed with crap, and I am not thrilled with either spending a fortune on outdoor storage mechanisms or simply tarping, considering how wet the winters are up here in Seattle.

Any opinions?

I'd store them upside down, of course, but I am concerned about hull deformation.

Upside down, resting the load on the thick cockpit side rails, is best.

I have a hoist setup for my Maui in my garage. I keep it upright with the cart, paddle, PFD and stuff sitting in the cockpit. The hoist has straps under the hull which distribute the loads a bit. The hoist contact points are directly above the sides of the hull... not one center point, there are two per strap so it doesn't squeeze the hull. I have had it this way for years with little if any deformation in the hull showing now.

So your design seems a bit different than what I found at Cabela's. Do you know the brand/model?
