Post subject:  Newbie question about hatches

I'm new here and am considering purchasing a Hobie kayak. We always rent kayaks while on vacation, and this past time we were given a Hobie Kona to use. What a blast we had. Most stable kayak I've ever paddled. My kids had so much fun jumping off and climbing back on.

Our rented version did not have hatches, but you could see the location on the hull where the hatches could be installed. I see that the only version of the Kona available online (via austin) is the "deluxe" version that comes with hatches. Do these hatches lead to walled-off compartments within the hull? Or do they simply allow access into the hull itself? If the latter, then they can't possibly remain dry, right?

I'm even considering selling my motorcycle to perhaps purchase the Outfitter! The Mirage Drive and sail option is very enticing to me.

Wow, that was fast. I'm already an owner. Someone just alerted me that a local sailing school was selling their fleet. Just bought a deluxe 2009 Kona from them for $500 with seats and paddles.

Though my question about the hatches still stands. :)

Hatches lead to the hollow interior of the hull. No bulkheads. Yes, a small amount of water is expected. Not totally dry. For that you can use "Dry" bags.
