whats the point of the rod holder extenders? is it's purpose to just get the reel higher of the water for durability? ive never had a rod escape the molded holder and dont see how it's physically possible unless a fish jumps and pulls line 3-5 feet up out of the water.

My impression is that they keep the reels higher so they don't get as wet, which should help with long term durtability.
The other reason is that they make it a little easier to reach your rod since they are behind you.

I am always chasing tails (Redfish) so not only is it at the ready position for me to grab quickly, but it also secures my $250 dollar milkcrate (Hobie Live well)& puts to use my Hobie rod leashes(no holes drilled for pad eyes)........plus it keeps my rods more up and out of my way for spare rods behind me....Steve
