would like some more specifics on this. like how long will it run at top speed? and how fast? is the throttle completely adjustable from low to high or is it 2 speeds low and high? |

Up to 8 hours at a cruising speed of 2 knots. I think this drops to about an hour at full throttle. My boy was jetting around for about 2 1/2 hours without completely emptying the battery. The throttle is completely adjustable in forward and reverse. |

This past year I was looking into purchasing a Torqeedo electric drive for a small flat bottom boat, what I was told about the Torqeedo it has high noise level. Can you mention what the decibel level is on evolve unit? |

I wouldn't describe it has a high level of noise. There is a low level humm / whine that is not present with a standard trolling motor. That is due to the gearing system. The gearing is how the motor gets its power and effeciency. If you were to troll... the pedals are quieter. We imagine using the motor to get places and use the pedals in stealth quiet mode. |

Except if you have a PA ... because the Evolve doesn't fit on the PA and still allow use of the pedals now does it ?

You would have to pull the electric motor and put the Mirage Drive in. Start to finish in a minute or so depending on where the unused propulsion unit is stowed. Four easy steps: 1) insert the prop alignment rod; 2) unplug; 3) lift the 7 lb. motor; 4) drop in the 7 lb. Mirage Drive. Start to finish, wouldn't it be nice if you could rig your fishing gear that fast?  Or, if you like to sail (or motor-sail), you could just shut off the motor and troll with your sail under the right conditions. The motor would be immediately available if needed.

does the motor pivot out of the way when a boulder or other obstruction is encountered while mounted in the drive well like in a PA? |

Not that I'm aware of -- it looks like a pretty solid set-up. There is no room to retract or swing without the prop striking the hull and I didn't see or read about any sheer pin in the system. I believe the prop relies on the skeg for protection. I understand Hobie rammed a few things with it while testing to make sure the skeg wouldn't buckle, etc. All the same I imagine there are limits beyond which there could be damage. Incidentally, the prop alignment tool (shown here) is only briefly inserted after the motor has stopped when pulling the motor out. |

The drive well mounted system does not "kick up". Not visible in the photo, within the black foil shaped shroud, is a thick fiberglass "batten" that the motor mounts to. This gives some impact protection to the MirageDrive well mounted system. This was tested with many full speed beachings on a concrete ramp. At one point this even left the boat suspended on the grounded motor. Pretty tough. The bottom keel is also replaceable if it gets damaged. |

Trying to figure out how to carry 6, 8D batteries. Should be able to get up on plane. Or maybe a weed wacker motor hookup. Or if I get a smaller kayak to trailer behind my Adventure I could carry my generator and run a extension cord. |
