Post subject:  Marine Goop or Selleys All Clear

Hi, I'm new and this is my 1st post.

Will be getting Outback soon, I already purchase finder and had decided on thru-hull setup.
I also bought both Marine Goop and Selleys All Clear even though none of my stuff are here yet.

I noticed the labeling of the Goop stating 'not recommended for use on polystyrene, polyethylene or polypropylene plastics'

Hobies are polyethylene right? I can't decide which is better, Goop or All Clear.

Hi OBee,
Since Hobie sells a very nice fish finder installation kit and a tube of Marine Goop is included, I would assume Hobie has checked out the compatibility of polyethylene and Goop.

I installed my old Humminbird LRC400 ID transducer in my new 2010 Outback with Marine Goop.......it worked very well and I did not see any problem with the polyethylene softening up as a result of the Goop.

My guess is the manufacturers warning has to do with electronic RF cables....this is where you might get Goop on the center conductor insulation.......polyethylene and polystyrene are commonly used to insulate the cable and an RF short might/could occur....that would be bad.

What ever the product you use to mount the transducer, make sure you remove/force out any air bubbles in the adhesive....after applying the adhesive, firmly press down and "smoosh around" the transducer....this will help to force out any bubbles....check out you tube videos on transducer mounting....they are most informative.
