My Outback purchased new in the fall of 2008 has always collected some water in the hull. I thought that this was from water coming over the hatch but a fishing buddy says his hull is always dry. I have been meaning to check on this but today the hull was one half full of water. A follow up inspection on sawhorses with water intentionally placed in the hull revealed water coming out in a crack that travels from the black drive well plug back toward and up into the drive well where the farthest most forward portion of the drive rests.

I did a search and found some posts that said it was covered and would result in hull replacement. I need some reassurance so I sleep better before going to dealer tomorrow!

As in all the posts... see your dealer and file a claim. 99% for sure we will cover, but we have to see the details before a claim can be approved. Simple.

Hi Farmer,

I've read more posts then I've commented on, but these forums are filled with people who can tell great stories of Hobie's customer service. My wife had a defective paddle, and it was replaced without any problems at all. I was nervous like you, but Hobie stands behind their product, and if the product has a defect in it, Hobie takes care of it.

I'm putting Hobie on the spot a little bit, but I'm betting they'll come through. You should write us a quick post once you've talked to your dealer, and tell us how your dealer, and Hobie did in their efforts to resolve the problem. Maybe include the dealer's name if they were great, and leave it out if they weren't so great.

I've heard the same great stories. I love my outback and hope to add a Pro Angler next fall! I will post feedback I receive from the dealer!

I carried my Outback to Key Sailing on Pensacola Beach this morning. The guys there were super nice. They quickly inspected and took pictures. Less than three hours later I got the call from Key Sailing that the hull replacement was approved and the hull was being shipped today with receipt expected next week. I could not have asked for better service!
I fish a good bit and my Outback was showing some wear. I have never treated the Outback as a toy! Its a fishing kayak! This customer service is just one more reason I will recommend that anyone considering a fishing kayak, go with Hobie!
