I had to purchase a new SUV kayak rack to fit my new Outback on top. I am having trouble in trying to figure out how to positon the two different style saddles for the kayak to rest on. My guess is they should be on the outside as far as possible.

What are the best saddles for a Outback? I have been looking at the Mako's and the hullyrollers by Yakima.

I have a 2007 Subaru Outback and purchased a Yakima Rail grab 4 pack, 2 each 48" crossbars, 4 each Mako Saddles and the "Show boat" rear roller-loader so my Subaru spoiler is not damaged/broken while loading the Hobie Outback.
Yes, the Mako saddles are set as far apart as you can make them on the cross bars.
This roof rack/loader works great and easy to use by one person.....don't go "cheap" on the roof rack!
In addition to lashing the kayak to the roof rack, just remember to use a bow and stern line to secure the kayak to your car.
Freeway speeds are no problem with this set up.

Thanks, I will post a picture. I am making a mother-ship and I need to be able to load and unload by myself. In the strangest fishing spots. Thanks again.

I had a Slipstream& bought a used Hullavator. The Hullavator is much easier to lift alone. If money is not a problem ...the Hullavator is the Best Thing on Earth if you 62 with a hernia.....Good luck....;Sully60 :D :D :D

But if you use a Hullavator, be sure your car and empty Hullavator will clear the top of your garage door. They are pretty high. Same with "L" brackets. Some of the latest "L" designs collapse.
