Post subject:  Would Oasis fans recommend going with Turbo fins
Hopefully, we will be making our decision soon.

Would those of you with an Oasis recommend going with the turbo fins from the gitgo.

A non board member said to go with the Turbo Fins in the aft position for solo yaking and for normal tandem use. Would that upset the balance of Mother Nature to have Turbo Fins on the aft position and the normal fins up front?

Just my 2 cents
I think the turbo fins should be the standard stock fins and the little bitty baby fins should be the special order. We ordered up the turbo fins and took off the baby fins within weeks after buying our Tandem Oasis in 2006 and we have never looked back 8)

Any combination will be fine.
My wife prefers the ST's and I prefer the Turbo's. Like Kep we used the standard fins for a while and then upgraded.
An advantage with ST's upfront is that when the water is shallower my wife can warn me so I adopt the 'flutter' shallow water strokes necessary to prevent fin damage. :)

I just upgraded to Turbo's on our Revolution. I don't see any reason to go back. They're faster, and I really like that you can maintain a good speed with a slower cadence. For us, they're perfect.

No matter which kayak you use I'd suggest the Turbo fins. They have more authority when pedaling and are less fatiguing than the standard fins. Less repetitions required for same amount of speed, in a word - more efficient.

Went with Turbo fins from day 1 on my Tandem Outfitter and that was the right choice, you will like them.

So when you change to turbo fins, what do you do with ST fins? Just sit in the garage or do hobie normally replace with price difference?

Put em on a shelf and move out of your way every now and then.... Keep em for spares if you have anything happen that takes your unit out of service.
I went with the ST's for the Outback and the PA came with Turbo's..... The ST's do a good job of being the all around fallback set. I'd not lend my kayak with the Turbos to anyone. Just the little difference in length can get themselves in trouble if not used with respect.

Just got my Oasis on Saturday and had the dealer install Turbos from the start. I bought this Mirage kayak essentially "sight unseen", meaning I've never used the Mirage system before I put my new Oasis in the water. I was absolutely blown away. AMAZING. (people on the shore were amazed as well)

I've never tried the standard fins, but they look tiny in comparison to the Turbos. I didn't find the Turbos too difficult to use or anything. They are fantastic from the start.

p.s. I had to request that my dealer return the standard fin package to me when I picked up the kayak. I want to keep them as spares.

I'm confused as to why you'd have to ask for them back. You did pay for them. And paid for the Turbo's too. hmmmmm??? Probably just trying to build up his spare parts locker. Do some studying if you haven't, on the care and feeding of the drive and hull area. Checking to make sure they're seated properly seems to be an issue overlooked and causing some damage on occasion. Stretching your butt in the seat will also get you some problems. If you need to stretch, get your feed off the pedals. The torque you can put on the latching mechanism and hull with your weight on the pedals is tremendous.

I'm not saying I agree with the need to request the return of parts that I already own, but that's what happened. I figured as much would happen, so I was prepared to ask. They seeming slightly surprised, but obviously couldn't refuse.

I'm sure that many people donate free fins and masts to dealers every year. The same is probably true for people who order optional equipment from car dealers. I wouldn't be surprised if they neglect to ask for their original parts back, and the dealers just keep quiet.

I just bought a new Oasis last week. As soon as I pay the boat off in a couple of months I will be going with the turbo fins and the larger rudder. Right now it's just a matter of money. - Roger
