Newbie greetings !

I'll be looking at 2 used Outbacks.

09 used about 3-4 times. Like new. asking $1400

04/05 not sure of condition asking $1000

Which boat is a better value ? I'd offer at least $100 less than asking price.

Thanks !

4 to 5 years newer, second generation hull, improved Drive, better condition, several other innovations (improved Twist N Stow rudder system, improved Click N go Drive attachment system, etc), higher residual value down the line -- for $400 more? The '09 sounds like the bargain on the face of it, especially considering that it's still under its transferable 2 year warranty. See what optional equipment, if any, is included with each boat (cart, Turbofins, sailing kit, Sidekick, fishfinder, ram mounts, bait tank, etc) -- they can add quite a bit of value if you can use them. 8)

PS Always verify age by looking at the last 4 digits on the serial # (stern, bottom of hull). Last 2 digits is year model, 2 immediately before is build month and year. For example, ........K708 was built Nov. '07; '08 model year. Months are designated A - L (Jan - Dec). This is important because many changes run with the model year; warranty runs with the build date in the absence of any verifying sales information.

Looked at both yaks tonight.

The $1000 model was actually a 2002 year in good condition.

Seller was firm at $950

Then I drove 20 miles to check out the 09. It was only in the water 3 times and I bought it for $1300. Can't wait to put a few smiles on it this weekend !

Thanks for the shopping assistance !

An excellent choice -- you got a much better deal (and a much better boat)! Have fun! 8)

Post subject:  Re: Looking at used Outbacks/warranty transferable

Is the 2 year warranty transferable on a used yak? I got the impression from a Hobie dealer it was not. So I am considering buying 2010 end of season Mirage.

The warranty IS transferable. In the absence of any other info, the manufacture date (located on the serial #) is used. Look in the FAQ section here to see how to read the date from the serial #. 8)
