My rudder will not lock in the down position. Is it worn out? Has anyone else encountered this issue? I have adjusted it and it goes all the way down but I keep losing control trying to make right turns, it just gives way. Help! Thanks, Dave |

Do you fix the cable in the jam cleat? |

Sounds like the rudder assembly is worn. If you look at it, there's a L shape hook on the fixed portion and a small flat beveled area on the moving portion the snap together when lowered. Both surfaces can wear from much use, or not being cleated tight enough and snapping in and out during use. If that's the case, a new rudder assembly would make it as good as new. |

Dave, You need to provide more info. What model of kayak? What rudder system- single lever up/down or separate up/down lines port /starboard? ![]() |

its a revo and has the leverthat rotates to lift and lower the unit. I think its worn as it comes open on right hand turns, when the water pressure is on the rudder blade. The yak is 3 yrs old. Dave |

Tighten up the down control line. The up line should be a little slack when the rudder is down. Tighten the drum bolt to where the rudder just releases from the "hook" in the blade to housing connection when down. Too tight and the rudder will not release. Too loose and it releases to easily. About a 1/4 turn loose from snug. |

Dave, I'm guessing you've seen this and have followed the links? viewtopic.php?f=21&t=12573 If you are still having problems with the lever style rudder up/down you may like to improve it by adding the T handles. It's a relatively easy upgrade and highly recommended. I have recently upgraded my 06 Oasis. I used the AI kit Hobie provided as an upgrade. |
