The new baby is waiting in the garage. I just purchased a new Oasis with some neat options yesterday. Hopefully she'll have her maiden voyage in Corpus Christi Bay tomorrow. I plan on taking her out early in the morning so I can try out the sail when it is a little calmer in the morning hours. Because of her color she will be christened, "La Papaya (lettering will come later)." I can hardly wait. I'll let you know how it went after the event. - Roger :D

OK I took her out today. I went solo. The bay had a moderate breeze with an appropriate amount of chop. Instead of going into Corpus Christi Bay I choose Nueces Bay which is protected by a causeway from the main part of C.C. Bay. As this was a new boat and I was unfamiliar with the handling traits I wanted to remain in more protected water. I shouldn't have worried. I pedaled a couple of miles heading straight into the wind with the sail furled. Holding that heading I unfurled, pedal tacked and headed down in a port tack run. I jibed a couple times, turned into a beam reach(that was fun) and finally finished with a run back to the parking lot at the ramp. This might be the easiest sailing boat I have ever handled. It's so easy to feather the rudder to adjust for the wind direction that it leaves a standard tiller as part of my past. This is going to be a fun, practical and very safe boat. I'm so glad I bought it. Next week I'll take my neighbor out with me. I'll bet it is really well balanced with somebody in the front. Later - Roger :D

Welcome and congrats on your new purchase Roger! :)
Our Oasis is coming up for its 4th birthday and has given us many great trips! It's a very versatile craft. When sailing solo, adding ballast helps improve the handling.
A search of the forums will yield lots of great sailing tips. Try this for starters:

Hey thanks Stingray! I went to the site you recommended and really enjoyed the comments. I'm looking forward to getting as much as I can out of this boat and those recommendations will help me realize that potential. By the way, the support this forum offers is totally great. Education comes in two forms. Learning everything yourself the hard way or listening to those who have gone before you. I'll take the second option. It's faster and usually costs you less in the long run. Later - Roger
