Post subject:  Marige drive fit question

I have an '04 outback, How tight does the drive fit when clamped down, mine seems to have a lot of radial slack, it doesn't set down deep enough to remove that slack. The seats for the drive's shaft don't seem deep enough and produce the slack. Is this normal or can I deepen the mount seats or add something to the front "nose" tab to take the slack out? With the front down the rear fin hits the mount area.

Thanks,
Butch

The fore and aft "slack" or rock in the drive are designed-in tolerance in the mold. Once you start to pedal it seats forward. The drive must seat under the locks... if it were to seat fore and aft first, that would be a problem, so the molds have some tolerance built in to allow for variances in molding due to plastic types, colors etc. They can shrink differently.

If the slack bothers you, we've cut a 1/2" piece from an old garden hose and slipped it over the 'nose' of the Mirage drive for one Hobie AI, and it cushioned and tightened it nicely.
