I was loading our kayaks the other day and had a thought. Wouldn't this be nice on the hobie.

DmacLeod;

I would like a replaceable skid on all of my boats not just the Hobies that would save a lot of scratches.

Don't think I really like the idea. Don't really want any more through hull fittings. If they are screwed into solid plastic, eventually they are going to work loose. Like the idea of a little protection in the stern and bow, but just don't like the looks of this. They make some keel tape that is thick for fiberglass boats that might work. Glues on, used it on a boat one time and held up good.

If you can find some of the stuff they use at the hospital for temporary splint casts it works great. Put it in hot water, it gets soft and you can shape it to the hull where you want it. As it cools it hardens, then trim and glue in place with gorilla glue. works great. I have a patch on my stern so it takes all the scratches and saves the hull. Been there for 2 yrs and hasn't come off yet.

Old Town has been doing this for years and I never heard of a problem with them working loose. Hobie kayaks have all kinds of trick engineering touches on them. Too bad they couldn't come up with a version of this. Putting a drain plug on a kayak in this location makes no sense to me.
