Post subject:  Is offshore wave pounding travel okay for the Oasis?

Hi everyone,

I've been using my 2010 Oasis this season like crazy. I almost always have to contend with 1-2 foot waves and lots and lots of variously sized boat wakes in my travels. For hours on end I will be driving up and over small, steep waves that cause the Oasis to descend down into the next wave, etc. Quite often the bow impact will be forceful enough to feel the boat shudder and flex (and splash my son in the front seat  ).

It's at times like these when I think of you people who use your Hobies on quiet inland lakes and streams, silently gliding across smooth water. Then I wonder whether or not what I'm doing is what the designers had in mind.

Am I within the recommended range of use for an Oasis? I mostly want to make sure that my typical type of usage is safe.

I use mine in conditions very much like you describe. I have also experienced the boat shudder when it slams over a wave and I know it flexes as I can feel it do so. One of the great things about the polyethyline our boats are made of is that it is alot like owning a great big Tupperware bowl. I've thrown those things around the kitchen and into the sink from a distance and never damaged one. I think our boats are alot like that and so I don't get too worried about the shuddering or flexing. I think it's the boat's way of telling us; "Bring it on!" - Roger
