On vacation in Sea Isle City, NJ and spending the mornings fishing for flounder and the evenings with the famil. Yesterday I was out in Townsends inlet and the outgoing tide was cranking. Hobie was battling hard which I love. In the old days of paddling, I would have to head for shore, but not with the mirage drive. Well, heard a clunk and my left foot slipped forward as I was being sucked toward the bridge. After getting away from the bridge I noticed my left pedal had moved from my typical setting of 6 to 7. I moved it back to 6 but it wouldn't stay. After getting back, I noticed the plastic had given way between 5-6-and 7 where the adjustment pin goes through. Really bummed. I picked this kayak up new in March 2009, is it still covered under waranty? Is this piece easy to replace? Greg |

I have heard that Hobie will cover thing (maybe pro rata) after warranty has finished. I think you will be ok. I have read that this has occurred many times to people. It may be time Hobie look a little closer to the design of this. |

I hope so, this Hobie is an awesome fishing machine but I have to trust it and so far it has never let me down. Greg |

If you are the only one that uses that drive, some of us remove the pedal adjustment hardware and bolt the drive together with ss bolts so that can't happen. |

That's not a bad idea on the bolts. My wife does use the kayak occassionally so I would prefer not to make it permanent. It would be good to have stainless steel sleaves instead of plastic, hope they are working on that upgrade. |

Reconlon Home not and trying to resolve this issue. I am trying to figure out how to post a picture of the drive. Do you (or anyone) have a picture of the SS bolt repair placement on the Mirage Drive? Thanks |

Unless the drum is completely destroyed at the hole you use, it will probably still work bolted, because the bolt holds tight against the pedal crank, so not as much stress just on the hole. |
