Post subject:  Hobie Revo Turbo Fin Question for Surf launches
I'd appreciate it if Hobie Revo owners can share how you store your pedals for surf launches. Please note I have the turbo fins upgrade. I've found it rather difficult to get it in and out of the bow hatch. Yes I've rolled and bent one of the fin masts.

I have an Outback and launch from a ramp, but essentially it's the same as surf launches without the waves. Have you tried installing the pedals as you unload it, then keep them folded under the boat using the bungee. If you use wheels you wouldn't have to set them on the ground. Even if you set the boat in the sand, you shouldn't see any damage to the turbos. I accidentally rested my folded turbos on the asphalt and didn't see any damage.

for surf launches I use the fins to break through the surf, attach the bungee cord to one of the pedals to hold them against the hull untill your ready to jump in and go for it, no need to remove bungee until you're clear of the breakers. Landings are a bit more challenging. You can use the same method or take them out and leash them to the deck. Personally I never take the drive out.

I do alot of surf launches and the waves can be up to 4 feet high and sooner and later you will roll. I've seen this happen even to strong experienced paddlers, it happens even to the best.
I have used the technique you mentioned numerous times. On my last trip the launch was uneventful but on the re-entry I bent my fin mast when I did a side brace. My yak was coming in side ways and one of the fins hit the sand and bent it. Thats why I am asking tips on how other folks store their pedals inside their yaks during surf launches.

when i launch, i have them secured with the built-in bungee. if the waves are small when i came in, i do the samething.

if they the waves are big. i secured the drive on top of front hatch. i added some bungees and eye hooks. additionally, i use the same front hatch bungees to keep fish i catch. sometimes when the fish is on a stringer. it creates a drag and i put them on the front hatch. you could buy some small bungees and connect it to the orignal bungees on front hatch. the drive will not move. i have tubo fins too on my revo.

note: my drive is tethered even when on front hatch. i use the existing padeye when fishing and my phone cord stretches enough for the front hatch.
