On my new outback i just noticed that the rudder control lever has worn a groove into the plastic its attached to. I looked to see if i could move it up a hair so it would not scrape but it looks like its a riveted connection, anybody else have this problem? I have used the kayak only twice with 4 hours total time on it.

What year model? Newer models have a plastic screw that is a friction reducer that keeps the soft handle from rubbing / catching the hull material. This may make an imprint, but will not wear the area.

My outback is a 2010 model built in aug 09 but it definitely has a metal type of rivet in it(you can see the metal). It has actually worn into the hull material i can feel a indentation.

Should be no rivet on the underside of older handles. Maybe something wedged in there?

Its not something wedged but its a metal screw of some type,do you know what they use to connect the lever so it stays put, and is it adjustable?I dont want to use it because i dont want to make the indentation worse.

The steering handle is held on by a set screw in the side. Nothing on the underside but plastic. Photo?

Couldnt get my hands on a camera yet, still trying but in the meantime i managed to get the rudder lever off,the problem i am having now is the brass insert that is in the handle comes loose and wont stay put when i take out the set screw.

The handle has to be replaced if the set screw brass slips out of the handle plastic. Contact your dealer for that.

I have the same problem. Got the Outback in March 2010
so I suppose its a 2009 Model ( serial ends in 09 if that's a help)
I haven't noticed any screws in the bottom just a metal srew in the side
allen key type.
Does it need replacing or just adjustment. I have place a piece of plastic tubing on the underside to stop the scraping. Just seems to scrape in one spot

No you dont have to replace it.The brass nut pulls out of mine when i tightened the set screw.I heated the brass nut and then embedded it in the plastic but that didnt work either.I received a new handle recently and sanded down the outer part so it doesnt scrape anymore.
