I just bought a trailer and took it out the first time yesterday. I am concerned how to properly tie it down. I had a strap over the middle, front and rear. I am towing it right side up. The front strap is my concern. I had it over the front compartment and it seemed pretty secure. after driving 20 miles i noticed the strap was sliding forward due to the front of the boat coming to a point. What I am getting to is can you run a strap through the front loop of the carry handle without the fear of ripping it off ? or is there a better way to hold down the front. Thanks for any help. |

Use one or two straps that hold against forward or aft slipping. I tie both ends with the straps stressed in opposite directions towards the center if that makes sense. Tight around the bow and stern. The normal shape of the bow and stern helps with that. Cross direction tying front to back I guess it would be called. A single strap around the "solid hand hold" as a loop or two loops around it, going fore and aft to the trailer would stop the sliding around too. Right side up..... hmmmm ok, a strap or two straps going through the 'drive hole', to the hand hold, fore and aft. Two straps maybe. The only force you need to fight against is very light. Trying to stop the kayak moving when braking and wind dragging it backwards. I just muddied the waters on that one..... Can the hand hold up front be used to stop the aft slippage on your trailer? Strap to the tongue of the trailer maybe. Good luck. |
