Has anyone had problems latching their Mirage Drive into the Click and go latches..The first couple of times I used my new Revo the Mirage Drive would slot staright into the latches...Lately I have had trouble getting the Mirage drive to latch in..Today it took me five attempts to get it to latch in correctly and I did have it level...It just didnt want to latch in..Has anyone else had this problem and any ideas on what may be causing it or how to fix it...Sometimes it will slot in staright away sometimes not....Thanks guys.. |

The Mirage Drive is very easy to use if you follow a few steps. 1. Always lock your drive in when no-one is around. 2. You are not in a hurry. 3. You have a paddle. 4. You have been drinking before attempting. The Mirage Drive will not lock in during the following situations. 1. You are with a group of kayaks that only have paddles. 2. You are in the middle of a channel with a large vessel heading your way. 3. You decide to chase a large fish that you have on the line. 4. You are demonstrating the kayak to another person. 5. You are sober. 6. You don't have a paddle. |

I've gotten locking down the mirage drive in my outback down to a science. Here is how: First I move forward so I am looking straight down at the drive opening. This involves me sitting on the 8" hatch. Then with the fins vertical I make sure that position 4 is on top as I look down. Then down she goes, and 99% of the time I have a good lock. BTW you can visually confirm that the drive is down and locked. Although they are not easy to spot, when fully down and locked there are two chrome "lugs" or "tabs" that that extend and capture the pins on either side of the mirage drive. If you look down and do not see these "lugs" fully extended on both sides, your drive is not down and locked. To make my "lugs" or "tabs" easier to see I painted the edges of mine red. I like the idea of the red edge, but hitting the right opening and angle is my problem... Does not seem to be any rhyme or reason to the process. Just hit and miss. |

If you look at the front (and back) of the Mirage drive, beyond the body of the drive, both ends have a "nose" (for lack of a better term). When you place the drive in the drive well, the body will usually sit on the front or back "shelf" instead of dropping in. If you look at one end (I prefer the front) while lifting the drive slightly, move the drive just enough so you can see the drive body just clearing the "shelf" and drop in, and it should be set to lock down. If you use the scupper carts for launch (boat ramp) or setup in sand then I put the drive in on land, even while taking the hull off the trailer or truck. Just remember to use the drive bungee to hold one of the pedals back, and don't slide the boat on the sand without lifting the bow first. Having the drive in and ready to use (once the bungee is removed) makes launching through shore break easier IMO. http://www.hobiecat.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=12836 |
