Post subject:  I'm sorry

for doubting some of you...

I figured this was a topic that would get read a lot, even if the subject matter isn't :D

Recently, as some of you know, I've asked several questions on the characteristics of the Hobie Kayaks, due to an intent on purchasing one (I hope) before the spring. A large portion of these questions have been directed towards the size and capability of the kayaks (because I'm a big guy) :D, and I'll have to say, I doubted some of the responses thinking a kayak could be comfortable with the width of some of them (such as the Adventure being only 27.5").

Well, last night, and continued in to this morning with further research I had a revalation....or maybe just an enlightening moment....Now for those who are squimish and have a vivid imagination, skip the next paragraph... :D YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!

I was sitting in t  he tub :D I have a garden tub in our master bath. As I was laying there, I thought....hey, the Pro Angler is 38" wide...wonder how wide this tub is? So, I measured it. 27" at the bottom, and I had PLENTY of room.

After this I was like, WOW! That PA has got to be freakin' HUGE! So then this afternoon I think, I wonder how wide my daughter's bath is? This time I am clothed, but, I jump in. A little tighter than my garden tub, but plenty of room to move around (I even mimicked leg strokes of a Mirage drive). Still plenty of room to be comfortable. Then I measured it. 20" I was like, WHAT?!?!? So I reference the measurements on ALL of the Hobies and my fat rear could fit in any one of them....The main reason for all of this research, well, first my interest was primarily the PA, because I "thought" that was the only boat that would hold me. As far as weight is concerned, my options don't open up a whole lot, but because my better half has also peaked an interest, I think I could probably score 2 Outbacks or something for the price of 1 PA.

Anyway, where to post this thread, I had no clue....
Just to say, Sorry for doubting you :D

Hope you had the door closed! We can keep a secret though.

Remember, the cockpit seating area width on the Outback (and most other models) is about 18", regardless of boat width. Make sure you have a demo before taking the plunge. While you're at it, also make sure you are comfortable with the seat back support. The PA seat width is non restricting. 8)

Hope you haven't started a review of all the toilet seats in the house.

CurtinAz,

Depending on where you're at (if you actually are in AZ) I have no problem letting you try out either my Revo or AI or both.

Let me know in the body of this thread if you are interested and we can try to arrange a meet.

Thanks for that info. I thought I asked that info before, but maybe I didn't. The cockpit width is important. I think there would be enough room to still be comfortable. :D

:D

I am in Az....one one of the most prestigious bodies of water in Az....Can you guess? :D Assuming you're in Sedona, I'm about 2 1/2 hours away. That is if you drive fast through Oak Creek....so probably closer to 3. Where in the world would you take a Revo around Sedona? Only place I can think is to drive north or east. That wouldn't be a bad idea. At least then, I could maybe test drive something. I haven't found ANYWHERE in Az that demos ANYTHING Hobie. The only places that come close are the yak rentals which are either Emotion or a few Cobras I think. A friend of the family has some OKs (Big Game & Trident 13), but he has a conflicting schedule with mine.

How embarassing would that be? Meet up and I can't fit in the boat. Bet you'd bring a video camera too :D Then take it a step further and post a repair thread....CurtnAz broke my boat :D

Shucks, that's a no-brainer! The walking trails there are so relaxing -- the botanical specimens and diverse wildlife are worth the visit alone. I hear the fishing is decent. Most people don't realize the small observatory there is open to the public. Bet you didn't know there is an on-site dinosaur dig as well! When did they start allowing kayaks there at the Gilbert water reclamation ponds?

Your mention of bath tubs was the clue that flushed out the answer -- it was a dead giveaway! Here are a couple of links to the most prestigious wastewater reclamation facility in all the State for anyone wanting to visit or reserve a camping spot.8)

I'll venture Powell, but wonder if that fits in the 3hrs ETA? I can usually make the South Rim from Sedona in ~2hrs, so maybe...

Currently, both yaks are in south Scottsdale, but often enjoy going for drives of up to 4hrs. Lake Mary, Pleasant, Kaibab Lake are all potential victims before April. Into May, I'll be doing CO river upstream from Lee's Ferry for a few nights. After that, the season should really start picking up for me. 8)

Been trying to get from Hoover Dam to Yuma and Bullfrog Landing to Wahweap, so those are both out there, too...

Such an injustice SedonaAI....you take the best lake in the WORLD!!!, and you make it look like a pond :D

So, here are some simple facts in case some of you aren't aware.

Lake Powell is 186 miles long, and has almost 2,000 miles of shoreline (Longer than the west coast of the U.S.A.), which includes some 96 canyons which can be 15-20 miles in length.
Put that in to perspective, if you wanted to pedal or paddle from end to end, and you were cruising at 3 miles per hour in your trusted hobie, it would take you 62 hours to do it....or better yet, about a week. Now if you wanted to paddle the shoreline, it would take you 3 months....

So lets go from a Hobie origin point....

Darwin is a good spot, because you would definetely get that award for trying such a stunt :D

If you wanted to pedal/paddle from Darwin, Australia, to Manila, Philippines, you'll be about 60 miles short :D

Just some knowledge :D

P.S. Bottom right corner of above picture is a little town of roughly 8,000....I live there.
