Just picked up a 2011 Outback for my wife yesterday. While rigging it out I discovered two large hunks of flotation in the hull. Looks like Hobie is now putting in enough positive flotation to prevent sinking. It is square and stays in place better that pool noodles. Looks like it will hold up better that the noodles. Just a small safety thing, but very important. Hobie should sell the stuff for retro-fit. |

They have done this proactively for 2011. There is talk down the road all kayaks may be required to have some positive flotation rating of some kind. This is just another example of Hobie staying ahead of the game. My customers have been using pool noodles for some time, but you're right; an upgrade kit may be nice and even available at some point. I would recommend everyone putting flotation in there kayak, you just never know what will happen. |

Does Hobie intend to sell the flotation blocks as a separate item? I'd hate to add a 6th kayak to my resume just to get the flotation. |

I'd be interested in a flotation upgrade kit for the TI as well. Any news on this, Matt? |

We were considering it, but the foam is expensive to ship (bulky). May be best to source at the local Walmart. |

Bummer.... Maybe sell it as a two part foam and a plastic bag with instructions... I'm always thinking. ![]() |
