I just bought an outback that had the battery zip tied to the sail post inside the hull. I'm concerned about mounting the battery this way because it seems to be a lot of stress on the sail post. The battery is a 12V west marine sealed PWC AGM 18 and weighs 15.5 pounds. Any advice would be great Thanks Rich |

Good god...what all are you powering? I guess those Margarita blenders pull more than I thought. ![]() Ok, heres what I have and havent had any problems in 2yrs so far. I have a 5 amp hr battery...much like what you find in security systems or computer battery backups. (internet price was like $12bucks) Weighs maybe 5 pounds...prolly less really. I keep it in a pelican drybox with a waterproof plug (west marine) dangling through a drilled hole so I can plug the fishinder in. I put a zip tie LOOSELY around the sail post and then use a metal clip on the handle of the battery box and clip it to the zip tie. The batery rests on the floor of the yak but stays where I put it via the clip and zip tie. I use a Humminbird 728 and that gives me somewhere about 38hrs of use. Way more than my butt can take sitting down honestly. |

Haha I thought the same thing when I got the kayak. I was trying to find the Cat diesel the battery was for. I'll find a use for it but not for just powering a gps / finder. Thanks for the response. I'll get a smaller battery and mount it up. |

I just place my battery (in its plastic water tight box) on one of those rubber non-slip mats inside the hull under my seat. It doesn't move much if at all when I am at sea or loading/unloading the yak onto/off the cart. |

I like the rubber mat idea. I was thinking of mounting the battery to a wood bracket in the hull. I was going to 5200 the wood down and use some type of strap to hold the battery box in place. I guess that is a bit of an overkill kinda like my 15 pound battery. |
