I have a question about hardware.

I’m trying to add a retractable shock cord in the bow (Skeeter boat rod tie down style) to hold the mirage drive up against the front bulkhead. It will be peddles down standing up with the flippers in the air (vertical).

My hardware question is that I need a thru-hull grommet for the shock cord to poke through and I noticed the Shock Cord End Fitting in the accessories catalog (PN 71115001) but I can’t tell how it mounts, does it have a backing nut to hold it in place?

Same question for the hook tie down (PN 71116001).

Those parts all require an existing pre-molded threaded location as shown here. You can not use them in un-assigned locations.

I would use a pair of stainless padeyes like the ones securing the bow and stern handles (PN 71220001), through bolted with flat washers and Nyloc nuts. They have all kinds of useful applications. Here's an example:

The Hobie 1/4" shock cord holds its shape relatively well (you can buy it by the foot (RS014BLK). This works great with the snap hook or shock cord fastener PN # 2101. Once you get the hang of threading it, it is length adjustable and of course weatherproof. I make these up for furled sail holders, cart holders and seat holders, etc. The pic on the right below shows the threading sequence. To shorten the cord, just loosen and pull more through the fitting.

They'll snap right on the padeyes and stay in position until you snap them off. Great problem solvers! 8)

Thanks, that will work for the anchor end but I still need to source a hard plastic grommet like the factory ones with a back nut. I like the idea of a self retracting shock cord so it stays out of the way when not in use.

Hi kingdaddy,

This post may help offer up some iseas in your quest for a solution.
Simply installing pad eyes with machine screws & washers and nylon lock nuts
should suffice. I offered a couple suggestions on what position to stor the pedals in.

Well I just went ahead and bought the factory shock cord grommets and pad eyes and went to home depot and found that they were standard (or not so standard) 3/4 garden hose thread, so i bought some brass cap ends and used them as nuts. They work great and now have a self retracting shock cord and eye on the front bulkhead to tie down the Mirage drive.

Really cant explain them well enough for anyone to get a real idea of what I'm talking about unless you have seen a Skeeter bass boat rod tie down, only a picture will do but since this site doesn’t have the capability of direct downloading I will never be able to post any pictures.

Looks great! very clean installation. It's nice to know that those fittings can be used in through-hull applications. 8)
