Why not on the truck using a rack? If the back is lower, it's not difficult to load.

Apologies in advance if someone has already addressed this (I did not find anything specific to my need via a search). I have a 2008 GMC Sierra extended cab with a standard box. I purposely did not get the full crew cab so that I could have a little more length in the truck's bed. I have routinely hauled an Outback and a Revolution together quite easily, but recently bought an additional Revolution for the occasion that I have a need for 3 yaks. I am getting myself in better shape as of late as I toy with trying to find the best way to haul all three of them in my truck without having to get a trailer. With two yaks I simply put them side by side and upside down with the tailgate up (closed - so that if I get rear ended my kayaks have a fighting chance). I can add the 3rd yak on top of the first two, but I just don't have a great feeling about it. I have them strapped them in well enough and I ALWAYS use a braided steel cable as a backup to potential tie down strap failure, but the engineer in me wants to find a better way. I am looking at one of those truck bed extenders (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001P2 ... d_i=507846) and will gladly buy one if I know ahead of time it will do the trick for 3 kayaks. I know that I am pushing it, but I don't generally drive too terribly far to yak and I do not want to deal with a trailer unless I have to. I was thinking that I might be able to put all 3 yaks on their side and have them all resting on the truck bed extender (which can adust to open to about 4 feet in width). Does anyone have a better way? |
