I'm looking for ideas on how best to store paddles on my kayak trailer. I'm trying to come up with something so that I don't have to store them inside my suv and I don't have to break them apart. Originally I was thinking of getting a large round pvc tube and mounting to the trailer but I think I will need two of them to fit all 4 paddles. I'm also unsure how I would secure them to the trailer. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Looking to do this on the cheap but also want to do it right. Paddles are the standard hobie paddles. |

If you're in salt water, if you don't dissemble them often, they will corrode enough so you won't be able to take them apart. Even in fresh water, given enough time, it will be difficult to remove them. |

yes, the paddle will corrode. i store my paddle with the kayak. it's on the top side of yak and secured with straps. i use the same straps that i for my hullavator. i have a revo. doesn't move at all. |

If you have an Adventure or AI you can store the paddle inside the boat. Dunno if this would work with the other models but I would not be at all surprised if it did (on those with a large front hatch). Take it apart (which as has been said IS a good idea if you kayak in saltwater - I have a secondhand one which won't come apart because the previous owner didn't take it apart!) then slide it into the boat via the front hatch, shaft-end first, up the side of the hull towards the seat. You will find that as you push more paddle into the boat the room to manoeuvre the blade in gets less and less but the blade is slightly flexible and with a bit of a squish on the hatch seal it will pop in. Getting it out is the reverse & easy enough in the same way. FWIW I take a lot of clobber on camping/kayaking/fishing trips with my family and all the paddles (except the one which won't come apart), the fishing rods, the kayak clothing, carts, etc etc all travel inside our A and AI on the roof of the car. Sure there's a bit more weight up there but it makes packing the car so much easier. |

I converted a tandem jet ski trailer to transport our Oasis and mounted a truck box to the trailer. Mirage drives, paddles (always taken apart), pfd's, and miscellaneous stuff are stored in the truck box. Seats and a few other items go in the back of the Jeep. |

Has anyone ever used pool lube (magic lube) to make it easy to separate the kayak paddle when you leave it connected for a long time? Another lube to use would be silicone but it is more expensive. Both of these lubs seem to last forever in water and do a good job of protection in salt water. |
