When traveling is it OK to store sidekicks and scupper carts inside the kayak?
We have three trips this summer all 8+ hours away and space is limited

I would think it would be fine, so long as they are also tied down...perhaps a bungee would suit; just for assurance that they wont rattle out. If it's a newer cart, may not have to worry, just flip the latch. I would still strap it down though.

I load everything I can into my kayaks before loading them onto the car: fishing rods, PFDs, wetsuits & kayak clothing, shoes, paddles (yes they do!), daggerboards, carts etc etc. Anything that will fit basically.

The kayaks then travel right ways up in kayak holders. They can get pretty heavy but I still manage to load them singlehanded by putting one end up first and then lifting the other end and sliding them into the holders (I cover the grippy rubber holders and the back of the car with a thick blanket to allow them to slide in the holders and protect the car's paintwork)

I put them onto the car so that they travel backwards, that way the seats do not have to be taken off: I just pull the straps tight so that the backs fold down nearly flat, and if you forget to bungee the rudders down it doesn't matter much.

I have even found that stuff under the bungees on the load tray is secure enough so you can load stuff in there too if you want, though obviously you wouldn't want to put anything too small/light/valuable in there.

Thanks for the replies, i have already had to replace my hull once for a crack and I didn't want to do any damage. It seems we always have more stuff than room in the truck on trips. We just bought sails for our trip to Key Largo next week and that adds a lot extras, we were worried about things bouncing down the highway(always over conservative)
Thanks for the assurances
