How may of you are using clipless pedals and how do you like them? Seems like a vast improvement in comfort and efficiency over the straps.

A friend uses them and feels they augment his speed. He's pretty fast!

Clipless pedals require the old threaded crank arms -- they should fit on any Drive. Hobie still lists them [pn 81100001 (left thread) and 81105001 (right thread)] -- you supply the pedals. 8)

I have been using the clipless pedals for about 1 year. since I do a lot of mountain biking they are comfortable for me. I have found that using the clipless pedals I get a better push and pull on the mirage drive. Since roadrunner took this picture I have switched to a Shimano M424 pedal with a resin cage. Roadrunner has given me many tips on how to get better performance and they are working. Along with the clipless pedals and his tips - I'm good to go! Without the clipless pedals I would still probably be riding in his wake. But now with his special drive, I would say we are a close match. :)

I'm going to swap my factory pedals out today. To be able to push and pull plus not have to keep my heels from sliding back will be a big plus in efficiency. I assume they are a standard pedal thread size.

Only very old pedal shafts were threaded with standard pedal threads. We still have some. Solid aluminum too.

I'm going to need those old shafts. Mine will not work. Any thoughts on changing the standard for future designs?

Aside from the efficiency it would also be less fatiguing as my feet want to slip down at the heel.

Aside from the efficiency these slings work pretty well.

But considering efficiency, these also work quite well. While you may not be able to pull back with the intensity of a clipless, you can see by the angle of the strap that you can pull the pedal back with the heel without the strap disconnecting. In fact, you can operate the Drive to a limited degree by pulling only (no pushing).

Here's a link if you want to make your own. Search the forum for some other designs as well. viewtopic.php?f=11&t=31555 But if you want the clipless, you need to get the old style crank arms. 8)
