http://www.yak-gear.com/OUTRIGGERS.html These people claim that their outriggers add 100 pound capacity to a kayak. If true that could make the Sport, more probable for many of us. |

IF it is true, you have to take in consideration the extra drag you will have to paddle too!!! But yes I think the outriggers will displace additional weight. |

I think it may be reasonable to draw a distinction between flotation and capacity. the outriggers will add flotation if you swamp, but I don't think they really mean you can add actual capacity to the boat. Just my thoughts. |

I appreciate the conversation about our Outriggers. Our Outriggers use Aqua Cell Technology which is a really tight foam that is covered in a plastic coating. They will add about 100 pounds of flotation which helps in smaller kayaks. I highly recommend installing them in the front of your kayak and not behind you. There are a couple of reasons. When installed in front, if you are paddling, it does not hinder your paddle stroke. In the case of most Hobies, it wont make a difference. When you install them in front, when you sit down in the seat, you actually raise the bow of your kayak a little bringing the floats up a little. This will create little to no drag and in most cases you can leave them down the entire time you are peddling or paddling. Lastly, installing them in front is much easier because you have easy access with the front hatch. If anyone has any questions or needs more answers, feel free to email me at [email protected] |
