Post subject:  Hobie mechanism worn out

First the good news. My pedal mechanism was not worn out! I took it to another dealer and they replaced a broken part. Only $60 to repair and it works fine.

Now for the next issue. I have another pedal kayak, its the fishing type. The pedal mechanism goes in with great difficulty. Today I couldn't get the pedals in at all. I wiggled and changed the position dozens of time. It just would go in.
Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance to everyone.

Its great to hear you were able to get the pedal drive repaired that cheaply with that much use.

Sorry I am unable to help you with the other kayak without seeing it. Would love to pop over but it’s a little on the pricey side.

Cheers

I encountered a similar problem using a newer drive on an older Mirage tandem. It looks as if the "drum shaft" was too wide to fit between the notches in the "cam lock knob". I sidestepped the problem by using one of the older drives. Take a close look at the reason yours doesn't fit and see if the shaft is a little too wide.

If it's the spine being too long, try dropping the drive in front first or back first. Hobie has been getting some pretty tight fits on some of the newer hulls. Your dealer may have to adjust the well. Let us know what happens. :?

Post subject:  Pedals wont' fit into kayak.

Hi, thanks for the reply. This is an older style kayak with the original pedals. It is about three years old. It used to slip in just fine.
Thanks, Pearly28

I figured it out. I put the front in first and then push really hard on the back. I goes in with the force of the push.
Ahh....back to kayaking with friends and manatees
