Anyone use the new rod holders listed in the 2011 spring catalog shown on pages 20-21? Was wondering what the max diameter of the rear strap is for holding the butt end of a rod. Will it work with 2 offshore rods in one holder or only room for one? Looking at a rod with a 1" diameter. |

Listed in the catalog, but not yet in stock. I'll have to ask about max rod butt size. I believe they tested most common rods. |

Matt, Thanks for the quick reply. Do you know what the retail price will be on them? I recently purchased an Outback and since I cannot store rods in the hull due to the mirage drive and small front hatch that will not allow longer rods (up to 9 feet) be placed inside this new rod storage has my interest. Here in SoCal many of us launch our yaks through the surf and carry more than two rods (sometimes up to 5 rods), that is why I was asking about the max diameter/# rods that one could "store" on each rod holder. Currently I just bungee them together and use the paddle holder on one side to secure them to the yak. This is not the best method as it leaves the tips & butts unsecured. Robert |

Hi Robert, Retail price on it is $19.95. The horizontal rod holder kit (Part # 72021060) was designed to hold one rod, but like you I fish on the west coast and surf launch most of the time. It will hold two larger rods and perhaps even three lighter rods. During testing, I had two 30 pound outfits stored with both tips in the tip protector and both butts in the clasp. This works very well for protecting your rods from damage in the event of a roll over in the surf. You can use the paddle strap to put over the rod for additional holding power in this environment. I would also recommend purchasing a rod leash for each one of your rods that you will be storing in the horizontal rod holder because it is mounted on the top or outside of the rail and if you forgot to clasp it and then bumped it, you could lose your rod. Rod leashes have saved my rods and reels on several occasions when kayak fishing. Storing a rod horizontally on the rail puts it in the most quick and easy place to access and it can really pay off when you need to react quickly for breaking fish or sight casting. Morgan, I've spoken with you at a few places, Fastlane, Southwind and FHS Del Mar. When will these be available to the general public and do you have any pics of them installed on an Outback? Catalog only shows the Revo and was wondering how the install looked on it. Also on a side note, any idea of when the new bait tanks will be shipped to the dealers? Purchased one back at the FHS in Del Mar and I'm still waiting! Robert |

That's my domain... Rod holder kits should start arriving i about 1-2 months. Live Wells, we received a partial shipment recently. More are expected in June. |

Nothing significant. New type of battery (thicker) required a change to the battery cover. That whole process delayed delivery this season. We are going to be out till June. |
