What type of glue / adhesive would work for repairing the plastic pins that secure the plastic plug that inserts in lieu of the mirage drive. Mine broke free and the plug of course filled with water. Dick |

This problem has been at the back of my mind for a long while. I have a drivewell plug that gets wate in it too, because the pins that clip into the drive mounting have gone through allowing water into the plug. I have other drivewell plugs to use so I have never got to fixing it. I have followed the posts about adhesives which will stick to polyethylene - but these are expensive and the expense is not warranted. My plan, if ever I tackle the problem, is to use a dob of black Sika Marine Goop. This stuff sticks like the proverbial to a blanket in most applications on a boat and I guess it should do the trick in this particular application. But it is expensive so I was never going to buy a tube just to use 1cc... If you plan to try it then beware: there are different Sika products - some set more like common or garden household silicone sealant whereas others are far more adhesive. I would definitely use the latter. |

Thanks for the tip, will look at it. I was also thinking of using a single piece of plastic and going completely through the block, thereby eliminating the shear factor when installing, removing the block. Maybe will do this using the "goop" to hold it in place. Dick |

Had the same thought myself: if just filling the pin with goop didn't work then run a rod right the way through from one side to the other. |

I had a similar problem where when I was loading my Oasis on top of the car with the drive plug in, it broke the ear off on the drive plug. I drilled through the unit with a 1/2" drill and put a 1/2" aluminum rod (from Home depot) through. I then removed the rod and filled the inside of the unit with canned insulation foam from home depot (it sticks to everything including your hands, cloths, work bench, etc), after expanding as it was setting up I put the rod back through (before it set up completely). The dried foam holds the rod in and makes the whole thing a little stronger, it still floats and doesn't fill up with water, and the foam weighs next to nothing. When your done the excess foam (there is alot) just peels off the plastic and can be trimmed nicely around the aluminum plug. When I first got my Oasis (back in 07) I hurt my back pretty bad when loading onto the car with the Malone Seawing stinger combo, the tip of the stinger fell into the mirage drive hole (when the original drive plug broke), I was out of action for almost 6 months (couldn't lift the boats) so everyone be careful. I still use the same system on my TI and Revo, but always make sure the re-enforced drive plug is in place, and am a little wiser now using brains vs brawn. Bob |

Now that's a great solution, I'm gonna do it exactly that way. Thanks a lot. And by the way, if anyone from Hobie monitors this -- it's too bad that a first class boat with an expensive drive system has such a shoddy (cheaply made) item as the hole plug. I would think they could do a little better. |
