I have an Outback with the square fins and a Pro Angler with the square turbo fins. They are about equal in speed. I'm curious to know if anyone has used a GPS to gauge their best speed with a Revolution. Last thing I need is another boat but I still get the itch to buy one of these every so often. If it was reasonably faster than the Outback, I might have a use for it, or could at least rationalize buying one. Thanks. |

If you're looking for speed, see if you can test ride an Adventure. When we only had the Revolution, I couldn't figure out why anyone would want an Adventure. I figured that it would be less manoeuvrable and harder to put on the roof of the car, but after owning the Adventure (island) I'm really impressed with it as a kayak. It's got a totally different feel then the Revolution, and, given what you already own, I wonder what you would gain by also picking up a Revolution. If you were trading the Outback for a Revo, that might be different, but if you're looking to add a boat with a different feel and more speed, the Adventure would certainly give you that. I would think that if you had a Revo, and an Outback, that you'll probably prefer one over the other, and the second one won't see much use. On the other hand, the Adventure would be a different enough boat, that you'd probably really want to use it for certain trips, and at other times, really see the benefits of the boats that you own. That's just my two cents. |

Thanks for your input. I'll certainly give it some thought. The Adventure might be a bit long for some of the rivers I would use it on. In the meantime, I have always felt that the Revolution was the one kayak that could sort of do everything and do it all pretty well. The Outback pedals great and is really dry, but I've paddled it and frankly, that wasn't much fun. The Revolution should pedal great, and if you were using it on a shallow, rocky river, you could pull the drive unit and use it as a regular kayak and get about the same speed as most other paddle-only kayaks in that length and size range. Of course, you could sail it as well. It's just always intrigued me and I guess I'm trying to rationalize buying one. It the same effort on the pedals got you a full MPH increase (or more) over the Outback, I just might have the reason I need. |

I hear you. I'm not trying to steer you to the Adventure if you like the Revo. They're both great boats. If speed was the primary concern, the Adventure is great. It sounds like you're really trying to keep an all around dry boat with a bit more speed. For that, the Revo is great. Also, if you wanted the boats to steer better in tighter areas, consider the sailing rudder. I haven't done any scientific tests, but it seems to turn my Adventure almost as tight as the Revo with it's standard rudder. I'm sure it would have the same effect on the Revo. Good luck with your search! |

It's funny how fate works - I never planned to buy a Pro Angler, but last fall a local store had only one, in the exact color I wanted, it was a 2010 model so they had knocked off $200, and I happened to be in my truck the day I visited their store. I pretty much had to buy it. Now I've run into the same thing with this particular Revolution. |
