I'm more of a sailing kind of guy, so I'm borrowing a kayak (i think its a hobie maui) from a relative to take on a camping trip next weekend with some friends. If the lake we're camping on wasn't a puny 100 acres I'd probably just take the 16 and sail circles around them. What's a cheap, reliable way to mount the kayak to the top of my car for the 2 hour drive to the campsite? In the past I've taken the borrowed kayak and strapped it between the huls of the hobie. I drive a ford focus that doesnt have any roof rails. I guess I could just take the hobie off the trailer and look goofy towing a kayak. |

Most places that sell kayaks also sell foam blocks that you can put on the roof under the kayak. I've also heard of using two pool noodles to do the same thing but not sure I would try that method myself. |

The Malone Standard foam block kit is the cheapest you can get and great for that one time or infrequent transport. http://maloneautoracks.com/standard-kayak-kit.php Available all over the web and Amazon.com Revo |
