Post subject: | Hobie GPS kit question |
I purchased the Hobie Out & Back GPS Navigation Package for my Outback. My question this comes with a nice compass but I don't see any praticle place on my Outback to mount it. Has anyone else gotten this and used it on an Outback? Thanks, Dave |

I did mine without any holes, although this is a GPS a fishfinder can be done the same way if you have the ability to make a round plug that fits into the drink holder snugly. It was easy for me since I have a lathe. ![]() |

The GPS was easy to mount it's just I can't really decide on a good place to mount the compass and keep it viewable. I would love to flush mount it but all the surfaces seam to be at the wrong angle. I want to mount it so I can just glance at it while peddling. |

But the GPS is a compass, all have an electronic compass built in, why would you need another? |

If you are inclined to cut a hole in your Outback for a permanent compass mount......the forward bulkhead, just mounting it either side of the mast tube will allow viewing the compass straight ahead of you. Assuming the compass is the Ritchie as shown in the Hobie catalog.....it requires a hole that is 2 1/16" diameter and will fit flush...you might have to sacrifice a small part of the Hobie stick on warning label when cutting the hole. I for one have a Hummingbird FF/GPS combo unit and still carry my old boy scout compass as it's battery never dies.....just like my old, 1962 vintage K&E slide rule..... ![]() |
