EASY TO CARRY AROUND It maxes out at 18lbs of thrust IT USES VERY LITTLE ELECTRICITY and WON"T PUT MUCH PRESSURE ON YOUR HULL SO IT WON'T BE A TOUGH COBBLE And you can run it for a fairly long time with a smaller battery. I'm thinking of getting one to help learn the rocky beach I have for the next 20 miles north of me... just to get a better understanding of what is really out there. And if it helps me catch more and bigger fish I do not care. It'd be great for getting out to the shrimp boats as well. And the cost is less than $90, add a good battery for 50 bucks and .... |

It's the identical motor as the Sevylor 18lb thrust model. Buy whichever one you can find at the best deal. I put one on an Outback a while ago and it's really a pretty good little motor. Very light and very small. Idea for a kayak, really. I seem to recall it would push the Outback up around 4MPH when run on high. I own one of each, the Watersnake and the Sevylor, and again, they're identical. Exact same motor and mount, just a different box. |

Hey since you've had these in the water...can you tell me what you used for batteries and how long they lasted? |

A buddy brought me a small "mart cart" battery to use with it. I think these are marketed as electric wheelchair batteries sometimes. They're not very large, weigh about 25 pounds and generally have 35 amp hour ratings. I know I've run my little 18lb thrust watersnake for maybe 1-1/2 hours on one. Never did drain the battery so I don't really know just how long the motor could go on one. With a 55 amp hour battery you might run all day. I don't really know. Not sure how many amps the little motor pulls, but it's not much. The motor in question here is not an electronic variable speed model, so it pulls the same amount of amps whether you're running on low or high speed. The excess power when used on low, is simply feed to a coil in the motor, converted to heat and cooled by the water. This is pretty much how all of the 2 through 5-speed motors work. On the other hand, the electronic variable speed models only pull as much amperage as they need for the speed you've selected, but I'm not aware of any of these being made in smaller sizes. Most of these are all rather large motors, from 40lb to 60lb thrust. |
