Hi Everyone My wife and I have decided to buy a Tandem. The only issue now is what color. We are wondering about fading and about surface temperature when out in the sun. In your experience, do the darker colors (red and blue) tend to fad? And can any of you tell if there is a dramatic difference in heat build-up (al la sitting on a hot car seat with shorts on) when out in the sun long hours? Might there happen to be generally accepted guidelines (informal of course) that suggest one color is better than all the rest, or is it as I suspect, a matter of personal preference? This seems like a frivolous question, I know, but we wanted to make the right choice given the investment and we thought some of you would have some insights. Thanks, Carl Jackson ![]() ![]() |

Perhaps another issue to consider is visibility. Kayaks sit low in the water and certain colors can be tough to spot. If that's important to you, yellow or orange would be a best bet. Fading? How do you plan to store it? If covered or inside, you probably won't see much if any fading. Heat? Don't know -- but have heard no complaints regarding the issue. Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your upcoming purchase! ![]() |

As the dealer told me: You want those fisherman to be able to see you. I got yellow. It's been in the sun for a year without noticeable fading, except the black seat fabric. Fessr |

Let the sun shine down on a dark object vs a light object, then place your hand on the objects. I believe you'll find the darker object absorbs more heat. That is why I went with a white hull. If you want to avoid serious fade, put sun screen on your kayak, and don't leave it sit in the sun all day in while being stored. |
